HP sells a line of premium gaming laptops under its Omen brand. But last year the company launched a more affordable HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop priced at $800 and up.
Now the company is refreshing its hardware with a new model supporting up to a 144 Hz display, up to NVIDIA GeForce 1660Ti Max-Q graphics, and up to an AMD Ryzen 7 3750H processor.
Incidentally, this is the first HP gaming laptop to feature an AMD Ryzen CPU rather than an Intel chip.
The new HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop should be available from HP.com in September, and prices are still expected to start at $800.
In addition to switching from Intel to AMD, HP says it’s shrunk the bezels around the display and improved the cooling system. The laptop also has a slightly lower starting weight of 5 pounds, down from 5.2 pounds for last year’s model.
The 2019 HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop measures 14.2″ x 10.1″ x 0.9″ and features USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A and Type-C ports, a USB 2.0 port, an HDMI 2.0 port, an SD card reader, a Gigabit Ethernet jack and an audio jack.
It supports PCIe NVMe solid state storage, features stereo speakers tuned by B&O, and has a FHD webcam, Bluetooth 5.0, and 802.11ac WiFi. The system is powered by a 52.5 Wh battery and comes with a 135 watt AC adapter.
HP will offer 60 Hz and 144 Hz full HD display options, AMD Ryzen 5 3550H and Ryzen 7 3750H processor options, and support for up to 1TB of storage.
I have the previous model of these, it works pretty well so far and i’ve been using it for my CG work (also it’s green, which automatically makes it better), the only major downside is the AWFUL trackpad, even for casual use it’s by far the worst trackpad I ever used.
That’s alot of power for such a reasonable price, especially with a decent overall design. It’s amazing how far gaming laptops have come in the last 5 years in almost every category.
For $800 you’re not getting the specs listed, you’ll get the much slower 1650 and a 60hz display
