HP is holding a press event on February 9th, where the company is expected to unveil its upcoming line of tablets running the webOS mobile operating system. And while it looks like the tablets won’t likely go on sale on February 9th, it looks like the wait shouldn’t be too long.
Speaking to the BBC, HP CEO Leo Apotheker says the company “will stop making announcements for stuff it doesn’t have.” For example, the HP Slate 500 Windows tablet was first unveiled at CES in January, 2010. The company didn’t officially launch the product until October. And it didn’t start shipping until December.
Apokether says the webOS tablet, by contrast, will go on sale just a few weeks after the February 9th event.
The company will also reportedly be dropping the Palm branding for webOS products, so don’t expect to see the Palm name on the new tablets… or possibly even on upcoming webOS phones from HP.
HP is also planning another event for March 14th, but it’s not entirely clear at this point exactly what HP will be unveiling at that time except for a vision for the future.
