So much for HP CEO Leo Apotheker’s vow that the company would stop making announcements for products it’s not ready to ship. Today Apotheker confirmed rumors that the HP TouchPad will ship in June. You know, the company’s webOS tablet which was announced in February.

The tablet will feature an 9.7 inch display, a dual core 1.2 GHz processor, WiFi, Bluetooth, a 1.3MP camera, and a 6300mAh battery. The tablet will be the first device to run webOS 3.0, a version of HP and Palm’s webOS smartphone operating system optimized for tablets.

According to PreCentral, Apotheker also made some comments about HP’s plans to bring webOS to desktop computers. Apparently the software will run “on a browser” on Windows PCs. The company plans to install webOS on all its computers, and could eventually ship as many as 100 million devices a year running webOS in one form or another.

  1. 8.9″ ??? I would love to see that, since of all the tablets we’ve reviewed I feel this is the best form-factor, size.. if its a 4:3 aspect ratio.

    However I think its still going to be a 9.7″ device… I think you’ve made a typo…

    1. You’re right. I was thinking of the HP Slate 500 which has an 8.9 inch screen. Hopefully Samsung will introduce and 8.9 inch Android tablet soon.
