We’ve got absolutely nothing to go on here but a couple of leaked product names. So let the speculation commence. A member of the Notebook Review Forum spotted a list of upcoming HP laptop model numbers in an HP softpaq update file. And that included two new machines described as netbooks, the HP Mini 210 and HP Mini 311.
The way HP names its netbooks, it’s likely that these are entirely new models since they start with new numbers. The company is generally giving its business-class netbooks a 4-digit number (HP Mini 5101, HP Mini 1101), and its consumer-oriented machines get a 3 digit number (HP Mini 110). Sometimes you’ll see minor variations of those numbers, but I’d be surprised if the HP Mini 311 was just a 110 with a matte screen instead of glossy or something so minor.
There’s a good chance that that we might see something a bit more significant like a touchscreen, or a different processor (Intel Pine Trail or CULV, perhaps?). But it’s really too early to predict what will set these new models apart from HP’s current offerings.
Update: It looks like the HP Mini 311c could be an 11.6 inch laptop with NVIDIA ION graphics.
