HP is now shipping a padded sleeve for the HP Mini 1000 netbook line. The sleeve will set you back about $20, and offers a bit of extra protection for your netbook when you throw it in the bottom of a backpack or the back of a car.
While $20 isn’t exactly outrageous, I’ve always wondered why HP doesn’t include a simple slipcase for their netbooks in the box. Neither the HP 2133 Mini-Note nor the HP Mini 1000 ship with any sort of protective case, while other netbook makers including Asus, Acer and Samsung include them for free. That said, the new HP case does appear to offer more padding than any of the free cases I’ve seen.

Too bad LeSportSac appears to have stopped making their netbook cases – inexpensive, padded and a choice of prints. WAY better than the one that came with my Asus.
I certainly would have liked a simple slipcase included with my 2133. Fortunately, my friend bought an Aspire One, and didn’t need the slipcase that came with it. It fits my 2133 perfectly, and is perfect for my needs. I slapped a big Ubuntu sticker over the embossed Acer logo so that nobody would be the wiser.
Wow… ugly!
