hp-mini-mi-reviewedI’m still waiting for HP to send me an HP Mini 1000 Mi Edition with the company’s custom Linux software to review. But the computers are already available for purchase, and Perry Longinoti at Notebook Review managed to grab one and write up a decent review of the computer’s hardware and custom software.

The HP Mi Edition operating system is based on Ubuntu 8.04, but HP replaces the typical brown desktop and start menu-style interface with its own program launcher which provides quick and easy access to programs including the web browser, media player, photo browser, and email app from one central home screen.

HP also slaps some slick media management software on the Mi Edition netbooks, which Longinoti points out is a bit silly if you pick up a model with just 8GB of storage like the one reviewed, as there’s very little space for storing media. But the HP Mini Mi Edition is also available with a 16Gb SSD or a 60GB hard drive.

For more information on the HP Mini 1000 you can check out my review of the Windows XP version or check out my photo gallery of the Mi Edition from CES.

One reply on “HP Mini 1000 Mi Edition reviewed”

  1. Two steps forward, but two steps back… and a weird stagger to the right.

There is a lost to like about some thing they did, but they really took some weird inconveiences on baord as well. Maybe the HP Mini 100 Mi-2 will solve tey issues and keep he good ideas.
