HP is refreshing its EliteBook 1040 with a new model that’s a touch thinner and lighter than last year’s model, but which packs more power thanks to support for up to an Intel Core i7-7820HQ quad-core Kaby Lake processor.

The HP EliteBook 1040 G4 will be available starting this month for $1380 and up.

HP’s business-class laptop features a 14 inch display which is available in full HD and 2160p options and with support for an optional touchscreen.

Other options include support for up to 16GB of DDR4-2133 memory and up to 1TB of solid state storage.

The notebook measures 13″ x 9.2″ x 0.6″ and weighs about 3 pounds, and it features a backlit keyboard, two USB 3.1 Type-A ports, two Thunderbolt 3/USB Type-C ports, HDMI 1.4 and headphoen jacks, optional 4G LTE, and optional Intel vPro technology.

While processor options top out at Intel’s 45 watt Core i7-7820HQ with Intel HD 630 graphics, HP will also offer models with dual-core, 15 watt Core i5 and Core i7 U-series chips.

The company says the EliteBook 1040 G4 shuld get up to 18 hours of battery life for models with dual-core processors or up 15 hours of run time for quad-core models. I’ve learned to take that kind of battery life claim with a grain of salt, but HP does also include fast charging support so that you can top off a dying battery quickly. The company says you should get a 50 percent charge by plugging in the laptop for about a half hour.
