As expected, HP’s fourth-generation Chromebooks are now available, and as expected, they sell for $249 and up.

But the sweet spot is probably the $280 model. Because that version of the HP Chromebook 14 has 4GB of RAM and a 1920 x 1080 pixel IPS display, making it one of the most affordable Chrome OS laptops with those features.

Best Buy is selling the $280 Chromebook in two colors: Silver and Sky Blue.

The cheaper model has a 14 inch matte 1366 x 768 pixel display and 2GB of RAM.

Both models feature Intel Celeron N2940 quad-core Bay Trail processors, and 16GB of eMMC flash storage.

The notebooks measure about 0.7 inches thick and weigh about 3.7 pounds. Other features include 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth, a full-sized HDMI port, a microSD card slot, two USB 2.0 ports and a USB 3.0 port with sleep and charge support (allowing you to charge your phone or other device even when the laptop is sleeping).

  1. Thanks, Toshiba, for making HP finally deliver an inexpensive laptop that isn’t humiliating clown colored garbage. It’ll be a long time if ever HP recovers the market share it lost being stingy, cheap and disrespectful.

      1. I kind of like the disrespectful bit at the end… Some folks apparently aren’t aware they have the choice not to purchase such offensive devices…..

  2. Not very appealing when the Toshiba CB2 2015 is 4GB/full HD, but with a broadwell celeron

  3. This is a decent set of specs for the price… I purchased the 13.3″, 1920×1080 version of Toshiba’s Chromebook 2 recently and am quite pleased, this device has a larger screen for less money…

  4. You might have mentioned somewhere in the article that it’s a 14″ screen. Kind of an important spec. I had to click the link to find out.

  5. Bay Trail are OK but I would recommend Broadwell. Something like Acer Chromebook 15

    1. Acer Chromebook 15 weighs in at 4.4lbs, while HP Chromebook 14 is 3.7. I wouldn’t mind the 0.7lbs for a better cpu.
