activemedia upgrade vid

Active Media produces a line of solid state disks designed to fit in a handful of computers including the Asus Eee PC 901 and Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbooks. The SSDs come in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB sizes, and with read/write speeds ranging from 40MB/sec read, 15MB/sec write to 155MB/sec read, 100MB/sec write depending on the computer and SSD model.

Installing the SSDs can be as simple as removing an access panel on the back of your netbook, popping out th eold SSD and replacing it with the new one. But if you need step by step instructions, Active Media has produced a series of videos showing how to upgrade the SSDs on the Asus Eee PC 901 and Dell Inspiron Mini 9. The videos don’t cover cloning your data and copying it to your new SSD, so you’ll pretty much be stuck reinstalling an operating system from scratch. Of course, if that doesn’t scare you, then you probably don’t need these videos in the first place.

Anyway, you can check them out after the break.

  1. This is very nice of them to help their customers (and others) who need it. I wish more companies would give “walk throughs” for upgrades.
