HPs new Pavilion x2 12 is a Windows tablet with a 12.1 inch 1920 x 1280 pixel display, a detachable keyboard docking station, and a starting price of $500.

While the entry-level model has an Intel Atom x5-Z8500 Cherry Trail processor, 2GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage, you can get a model with a higher-performance Intel Core M3 Skylake chip, and twice as much memory and storage for $100 more.

HP will also offer models with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

All models come with the detachable keyboard dock. Unlike some companies, HP doesn’t sell the keyboard separately.

HP is showing off the Pavilion x2 at CES this week, and while the 12.1 inch computer feels a little large for a tablet, it makes a pretty decent portable notebook.

It attaches to the keyboard dock via a magnetic hinge. You can also flip the tablet around and attach it so that it faces away from the keyboard if you want to use the keyboard like a kickstand while using the tablet as a touchscreen device or a media player. The keyboard is pretty much just a keyboard: it doesn’t add any ports to the tablet, but it has a decent layout, a reasonably large touchpad, and seems functional enough.

Used as a notebook, the Pavilion x2 weighs about 3.2 pounds. The tablet alone is about half the weight.

While HP isn’t showing off a digital pen, the company says an optional active stylus will be sold separately.
