Google acquired music streaming service Songza this summer, and now the company is starting to bring Songza-style features to Google Play Music.

Starting today Google is rolling out an update to Play Music that will let you stream curated playlists… assuming you’re paying $9.99 per month for a Google Play Music subscription.

There’s still a separate Songza app that you can use to stream hand-picked playlists for free. Those mixes include songs selected for their genre, mood, or other characteristics. Playlists have titles based on their themes such as “Today’s Biggest Hits,” “Classical for Studying,” or “A Profoundly Funky Dance Party.”

Songza also recommends playlists depending on the time of day, day of the week, type of device you’re using, and more.

All of those features are now part of Google Play Music as well, along with a number of new features that give you more control over your playlists.

If you’re just using Play Music’s free storage locker service there’s no curated playlists for you… but you can always use the free Songza app (for as long as Google continues to offer it).

If you do pay for a Play Music subscription you get access to Songza-style playlists as well as these new features:

  • Download playlists so you can listen without an internet connection
  • See the next song in a playlist
  • Add or remove songs or change the order of songs in a playlist
  • Create a new playlist based on a song in a playlist
  • These playlists will also show up in the recently played section of Play Music

The new curated playlist features are available in Play Music for Android, iOS, and the web starting today.
