The Google Play Movies app for Android lets you stream TV shows and movies rented or purchased from the Google Play Store. But the streaming video service only works in the US — and up until recently it only worked if you had a supported device that wasn’t rooted.
Now Google has dropped one of those restrictions.
While folks outside of the US will be getting the Google Nexus 7 tablet soon, they won’t be able to access movies, tv shows, or magazines from the Play Store.
But if you’re in the US and you’ve been unable to stream video content from the Play Store up until recently because you’ve rooted your device or installed a custom ROM such as CyanogenMod, you might want to give the app another try.
Last week users started to notice that Google had lifted the restriction on rooted devices.

well its odd that the “US content vendors” don’t want to potentially take all/much of the millions of UK 2012 Olympics visitors streaming content cash in 19 days that are also probably ready to buy this new Quad Nexus 7 device at ÂŁ199 for the 16GB version on the high street bricks and mortar while their there then but that’s the “US content vendors” bottom line loss problem for having their heads in the sand and missing a massive limited one time ÂŁÂŁÂŁ/$$$ profit cash bonanza i guess.
everyone else will just have to use their new Quad Nexus 7 devices with the new free virgin media underground WiFi install for the games to get and stream their 3rd party content for free and supply their own content if no one in the US wants to take real ÂŁ/$ cash for the millions of after hours and even prime time content people will want to see while there.
Surprised they didn’t do this sooner due to the Nexus phones. Now that there is a Nexus tablet which was essentially designed to consume Google media services this was the only logical choice seeing that most of the Nexus 7 tablets sold will end up rooted.
Most Nexus 7s will be rooted?
sure , why not you can already root and Jelly Bean your galaxy Nexus LTE/GSM so why not the 7’s too see
