Google Now is making the jump from mobile devices to desktop and notebook computers. The service provides cards with notifications about news updates, weather forecasts, nearby attractions, upcoming appointments, and more.

Initially available only on smartphones, Google Now will be a key feature of Google’s upcoming Android Wear platform for smartwatches and other wearable devices. And now you can also view Google Now Cards in the Chrome web browser on Windows, OS X, and Chrome OS systems.

Google Now in Chrome

Google began offering Google Now in Chrome beta in February. Now the feature is graduating from beta status, and it’s available to all users who are signed into Chrome.

You can view cards in the Chrome browser by tapping the notification icon, which looks like a small bell.

Don’t want to see Google Now cards in you browser? Tap the bell icon and uncheck the “Google Now” box.

Google will still use your phone to determine your location, so if your phone’s in San Francisco and your laptop is in New York, get ready to see some West Coast data in your browser.

  1. Hmm. I have an Andoid phone with Now, am signed into a fully updated Chrome . . . but the little bell icon only gives me Google+ notifications, as it has done for a few weeks.

    1. Which “fully updated” Chrome is it? If you’re on 33, you might need to enable a flag (chrome://flags/#enable-google-now)…
