The Google Play Music app for Android is a powerful music player that you can use to listen to tracks on your device, music uploaded to Google’s online music service, create instant mixes based on a single song, and more.

But the app, which was first released nearly two years ago looks like an app… which was first released nearly two years ago. In other words, it has a weird blue background which doesn’t look much like Google’s other Android apps such as Gmail, Google Google+, or Google Maps.

That bugs Android Police’s Ron Amadeo — so he decided to do something about it.

Google Music white

Amadeo has released a modified version of the Google Play Music app for Android which has a black, white, and gray color scheme that makes the music player look much cleaner.

Note that it’s still a work in progress, and it’s based off Play Music 4.4, so you may not benefit from features in newer versions of Google’s app.

Since the app is a modified version of the official Google Play Music app, you’ll need to uninstall Google’s version before you can install Amadeo’s.

That should be pretty easy to do if you’re running a custom ROM, since Play Music probably wasn’t installed as a system app anyway. But if it is a system app on your device, you’ll need a rooted device so that you can uninstall and remove the Play Music app from the system/app directory on your device.

Or you could just wait to see if Google ever gets around to giving the Play Music app an official update.
