Google has added video rentals to the Android Market, with thousands of titles available at launch. Video rentals run $1.99 and up, and you have 30 days to start watching once you rent a movie.

You can stream videos directly from the Android Market web site, but Google is also launching video apps for Android 3.1 tablets and smartphones running Android 2.2. The smartphone version should be available in a few weeks, while the tablet app will be available with Android 3.1 which should begin rolling out to the Verizon Motorola XOOM 3G tablet soon.

Google is also including the ability to “pin” movies to your mobile device, which causes your phone or table to download a video to local storage in the background so that you can watch on an airplane or whenever else you might need offline access.

  1. Yet my Google TV still does not have Android Market?? What a strange world we live in ;/

      1. Right right- just a little sour taste in my mouth is all. They’ve been dead quiet on plans for the product (which a lot of then faithful people threw money at). I have concerns of it switching off to ARM wondering where it leaves us 1st gen adopters running on Intel?
