GMABooster is a free utility that can adjust the clock speed of the Intel 945GSE graphics chipset used in many netbooks to offer modest improvements to graphics performance. Basically, the Intel 945GSE integrated graphics processor, along with a few others, are sort of like underclocked versions of the 945 graphics. The idea is that by underclocking them to run at 166MHz instead of 400MHz, they use less power and help prolong your battery life.
But if you want to squeeze every bit of graphics performance possible out of your netbook, GMABooster can help you overclock them to run at 200MHz or 400MHz. Unfortunately, you probably won’t notice a huge performance boost. UMPC Portal reports that you get about a 22% increase in graphics performance when running the Crystal Mark benchmark on an HP Mini 1000. And Blogeee found that the boost in graphics performance wasn’t necessarily worth the decrease in battery life.
