Gigabyte has unveiled its entry into the small, but growing space of ultrabooks with discrete graphics. The Gigabyte U2442 is a thin and light notebook with a 14 inc, 1600 x 900 pixel display, an Intel Ivy Bridge processor, and NVIDIA GeForece GT 640M or 650M graphics.

The Gigabyte U2442 is expected to launch in mid-June for between $999 and $1299.

The ultrabook has a few other premium features that help set it apart from other ultrabooks, including dual air vents, with one for the CPU and one for the graphics processor. It also has a backlit keyboard hooked up to an automatic light sensor so the keys are only illuminated when you need them.

In addition to the discrete graphics, the notebook still has integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics which will kick in when you’re not playing games, watching videos, or performing other tasks that need the extra graphics power.

Gigabyte will offer the laptop with a choice of a 128GB solid state disk or an optional hard 750GB or 1TB hard drive.

The notebook has 2 USB 2.0 ports, 2 USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, Ethernet, mic and headphone jacks, as well as an SD card reader, stereo speakers, and stereo microphones.

There’s a 1.3MP webcam over the screen, and the U2442 has 802.11b/g/n WiFi adn Bluetooth 4.0. It features a 44Whr battery.

The Gigabyte U2442 measures 13.3″ x 9.2″ x 0.8″ and weighs 3.46 poundswith a solid state disk or 3.66 pounds with a hard drive.

It may not be as sleek as the Gigabyte X11, but with discrete graphics, a higher resolution display, more ports, and a larger battery, the Gigabyte U2442 could be a better option for those looking for a little more power from an ultrabook.
