Gigabyte has been producing convertible tablet-style netbooks for a few years. At first glance they look like any other netbook, if a bit bulkier. But the displays are attached to the base of the computer with a swivel rather than two hinges. This lets you rotate the screen 180 degrees and fold it down over the keyboard so you can use the computer as a tablet.

This week a previously unannounced Gigabyte netbook showed up at the FCC website. The Gigabyte T1006 looks like a minor update to the company’s latest convertible — but the key difference is that the new model will have an Intel Atom Cedar Trail chip.

It’s not clear which new Intel Atom processor the T1006 will have, but the user manual says the computer uses Intel GMA 3650 graphics, and that’s what you get what you get with Intel’s newest Atom chips.

Other specifications include a 10.1 inch display with a capacitive multitouch touch panel. Gigabyte will offer models with 1366 x 768 pixel or 1024 x 600 pixel screen resolutions.

The Gigabyte T1006 has a 2.5″ hard drive bay, a DDR3 memory slot, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, and optional 3G.

The mini-laptop also has a USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0/eSATA combo port, and a standard USB 2.0 port, HDMI and D-Sub, Ethernet, a flash card reader, and 1.3MP camera. There’s a buil-in mic and stereo 1.5 Watt speakers. The computer has a 6 cell, 56.61Whr battery.

The notebook measures 10.4″ x 8.4″ x 1.6″ and weighs 3.26 pounds. There’s no word on how much the Gigabyte T1006 will cost, but Gigabyte’s convertible netbooks tend to be more expensive than an average Intel Atom-powered mini-laptop.
