Gigabyte’s Booktop line of netbooks stand out from the crowd not by offering faster processors, higher resolution displays, or applying any of the usual tricks. Instead, these otherwise normal looking netbooks come with docking stations that let you rest the mini-laptop on its side, plug in a keyboard, mouse, and external display, and use the Booktop like a desktop computer. Now Gigabyte’s latest Booktop is shipping for just under $400.
The Gigabyte M1005M features a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N550 dual core processor, a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel matte display, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, 3 USB ports, Ethernet, 1GB of RAM, and a 250GB hard drive. The laptop runs Windows 7 Starter Edition and comes with a 3 cell battery.
The docking station has 3 more USB ports, VGA output, and Ethernet. Honestly, there’s not much that you can do with the dock that you couldn’t already do with the netbook on its own — except prop the netbook on its side.
Excaliber PC is selling the laptop for under $400.

it’s like the old sharps 🙂
It looks like one could simplify having to plug in a larger monitor, keyboard and mouse just by pluggin it into the dock and would simplify removing those items just by removing it from the dock. The price is pretty good/competitive.
