Gigabyte is probably best known for making motherboards and graphics cards. But the company also offers a line of notebook, desktop, and tablet computers. And now it looks like Gigabyte is getting into the smartphone business.

The company introduced three new Android handsets at Computex this week.

All three are low-to-mid range smartphones which will ship with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean software. Engadget reports that the phones will initially be available in Asia and Eastern Europe.

Here’s a brief run-down of what you get with each model.

GSmart Simba

The Gigabyte GSmart Simba sports a 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 4GB of storage. The phone has a 1900mAh battery.

It has a 5 inch “HD” display, an 8MP camera on the back, and a 1.3MP camera facing the front. The phone supports dual SIM cards, and lets you make a three-way call to people on two different networks at once.

Gigabyte will offer customizable back covers for this smartphone.

GSmart Sierra

Gigabyt’es GSMart Sierra has a 5 inch HD display like the Simba, but it features a 1.5 GHz MediaTek MT6589T Turbo quad-core processor.

This model has a 13MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of storage, and a 2000mAh battery.

The GSmart Simba supports dual SIM cards.

GSmart Maya

The smallest phone of the bunch is the GSMart Maya M1 v2, which has a 4.5 inch 960 x 540 pixel display.

It’s powered by a 1.2 GHz MediaTek MT6589 quad-core CPU and has 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage.

This model has a 1700mAh battery, an 8MP rear camera and 2MP front camera, and support for dual SIM cards.

  1. Gigabyte is already selling Android smartphones in Europe for long time, so they’re not getting into anything new. I’ve never had one but according to user reviews those phones are suprisingly competitive.

  2. The “HD” display models I’m guessing are 1280×720? The Maya would be plenty of phone for me.
