Gigabyte is updating its Brix line of mini desktops with new models sporting 7th-gen Intel Core “Kaby Lake” processors.

Brix desktops are similar to Intel’s NUC line of computers, and like Intel’s systems, these little computers tend to use the same Intel U-series processors commonly found in laptops, since the 15 watt dual-core processors are less likely to overheat in a confined space.

The latest Brix models come with a choice of Intel Core i3-7100U, Core i5-7200U, or Core i7-7500U processors.

There are two different sizes for the new Brix systems. The smaller model measures about 4.7″ x 4.4″ x 1.4″ and has room under the hood for an M.2 SSD, but there’s no room for a hard drive or physically larger solid state drive.

Larger models measure 4.7″ x 4.4″ x 1.8″ and have room for both a 2.5″ drive and an M.2 SSD.

Each model has 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2, two DDR4-2133 SODIMM slots for memory, and a variety of ports, including:

  • 1 USB 3.1 Type-C port
  • 1 USB 3.1 TYpe-A port
  • 2 USB 3.0 ports
  • HDMI 2.0
  • DisplayPort
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • Audio jack

Like most Gigabyte Brix computers, the new models will likely be sold as barebones systems. While the price includes a case, motherboard, power supply, and processor, you’ll have to supply your own memory, storage, and operating system.

thanks Olivier!
