The Fuhu Nabi 2 is a tablet designed for kids, but it has specs that make it a reasonably good tablet for grown-ups too. You could put the 7 inch tablet in its protective rubber case, enable parental controls and hand it to your little ones — or use it yourself to play games, surf the web, or watch videos.

But up until now the tablet has had one glaring omissions: It didn’t support the Google Play Store, which meant you had to use Fuhu’s App Zone or other third-party stores to find apps.

Now Fuhu is launching an over-the-air update that brings support for the Google Play Store and other Google apps including Maps, Books, Gmail, and Calendar.

Nabi 2

The Fuhu Nabi 2 features a 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel capacitive toucshcreen display, an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. There’s also a microSD card slot for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

Fuhu’s tablet has front and rear cameras, a 3850mAh battery, WiFi and Bluetooth, and an operating system based on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. There’s a micro USB 2.0 port and a mini HDMI port.

With a list price of about $200, the Nabi 2 is about the same price as Samsung’s Galaxy Tab Kids tablet, which also has Google Play support. But you can actually pick up the Nabi 2 for below list price. Best Buy is selling it for $180, and the tablet’s available from Amazon for $184.
