modular-smartbook

Tired of seeing new products from Computex that actually have a shot in hell of showing up on store shelves one day? Chip maker Freescale has a few concept designs to show you for devices that may never see the light of day. But at least they show some outside the box thinking on Freescale’s part.

All six concepts are based around ARM processors like Freescale’s i.MX515 CPU. And they’re designed to be small, light, and low power computing devices.

The picture above shows a modular smartbook that can be easily customized with a touchscreen, a slide-out keyboard, or other parts. For instance, the processor comes on a module, as does the battery, allowing you create a sort of mix-and-match netbook smartbook. Click the picture to see a larger version.

You can find 5 more designs after the break.

  1. ok, i really really want to see that modular concept go live, with modules from a number of suppliers!

    1. oops, forgot to say that it would be somewhat better if that processing module was split up tho. so that it had cpu and ram on its own, gpu on its own and storage on its own…
