Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn is probably best known as the company that builds iPhones and iPads for Apple. But every now and again you can actually buy computers and components with the Foxconn name. Newegg is full of them.

Two of Foxconn’s latest devices are Nano PC desktop computers with small, fanless cases. According to Fanless Tech, two barebones models will go on sale soon with prices below $200.

The first model is the Foxconn AT-5300 with a 2.13 GHz Intel Atom D2700 dual core processor. The second is the Foxconn AT-5600 with a 1.65 GHz AMD E-450 dual core CPU and Radeon HD graphics.

Both computers will consume less than 24W of power. They’ll likely be sold as barebones systems, which means you’ll need to add your own storage, memory, and operating system.

They’ll each support up to 4GB of RAM and feature 2.5 inch drive bays for a hard disk or solid state disk. Both computers also feature HDMI, VGA, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports as well as built-in 802.11n WiFi.

Aside from the low price, low power consumption, and fanless design which will allow for nearly silent operation, what makes these little guys special is just how little they are.

The computers measure about 7.5″ x 5.3″ x 1.5″ and weigh 1.3 pounds.

  1. thanks. i found a new site to read. been wanting to slap together a fanless computer.

  2. This is too funny except that it’s not. Tom’s Hardware is reporting that Intel is discontinuing the D2700 Atom CPU featured in the Foxconn product.

The faster introduction of new CPUs is going to take its toll on computer manufacturers. Sony just got into the ultrabook game, and Lenovo has just introduced new ThinkPad Edge models, both companies using Sandy Bridge parts.

Another article on this site says Intel is pushing lower cost plastic cases for ultrabooks. These are likely to show up in Ivy Bridge laptops that could be cheaper and faster than Sandy Bridge notebooks that are only a few months old.

This all reminds me of the time (I only recall the details vaguely) Apple introduced a new, lower-cost (by $100), faster iPhone within 1 month or so after a change in the prior version. I think PC buyers may soon find themselves in a similar situation.

    1. For the ATOM line, they’ve been hold it back for 5 years. So unlike the
higher end chips the ATOM really, really, really, really, really needs a
      update 😛

It’s just the combination of the growing interest in the mobile market, Intel has Clover Trail coming out in time for Windows 8 to provide a viable solution for ATOM based tabets, and that the next gen 22nm Silvermont chips are coming out as soon as early 2013, along with the slowing netbook market, which are all pushing to accelerate the change.

    2. Well, the AT-5600 model has the AMD E450. So maybe that version will continue after the Intel model is discontinued.

  3. This is interesting. I like the built-in WiFi and the fanless design. I might get one for a home server.
