Hot on the heels of the official announcement of the Jolibook, the folks at Jolicloud have released a few press shots of the upcoming laptop.

To be honest, the design is rather mundane. We’re looking at a pretty common netbook design with 3 USB ports, Ethernet and VGA jacks, a 10 inch screen, flat keys, and a touchpad with a single button. It appears to have a 6 cell battery, which juts out of the back of the laptop.

There are two distinguishing features. The first is a bright, colorful lid with a custom design (although it’s not entirely clear if this is the standard design that all models will ship with), and the second is the fact that the netbook runs the Jolicloud operating system.

Jolicloud is designed to blur the lines between desktop and web apps. You can “install” Gmail and Facebook just as easily as VLC or Basically what that means is that shortcuts for web and native apps show up on Jolicloud’s custom program launcher, and you can click any icon to launch an app. Web apps open in the Chromium web browser, which is the open source version of Google Chrome.

You can also login with your Jolicloud account to save your settings to the web, so you can access your desktop from any computer, and if you need to replace your netbook you can move all of your programs and settings just by logging in on the new machine.

On the hardware side, we know that the Jolibook will have a 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550 dual core processor and support for 720p HD video playback. It will have a 250GB hard drive and run Jolicloud 1.1. There’s no word yet on screen resolution, RAM, or battery life.
