Mozilla is scheduled to release Firefox 13 tomorrow, but you can already download the latest version of the popular web browser from the ftp site for Firefox nightly builds. Firefox 13 is available for Mac, Windows, and Linux computers.
Update: You can now download Firefox 13 from the Firefox home page.
Since Mozilla shifted to a rapid release schedule, a new version of Firefox comes out every 6 weeks. So updates like this aren’t quite as exciting as they used to be.
But Firefox 13 does have a few major changes from version 12, including a new default home page, a retooled page that displays when you open a new browser tab, and a “tabs on demand” Â feature that will let you the browser load more quickly when it’s restoring pages from an earlier browsing session, by only fully loading a web page when you click on its tab.
The new home page includes links to your downloads, history, bookmarks, sync, history, and settings.
Mozilla is also taking a page from Opera and Google Chrome by adding thumbnail icons for frequently visited sites to your new tab page. The process is automatic, but you can also remove pages or pin a page to keep it from fading away if you don’t visit the site often.
