The EnTourage eDGe is one of the most intriguing Android devices to hit the market this year. It’s a dual screen device running Google Android. But while one screen is a normal LCD touchscreen display, the other is an e Ink screen meant for reading digital books. The whole thing looks more like a netbook than a typical Android tablet, thanks to the hinge in the middle, and it also weighs about 3 pounds.
Out of the box, the device runs a handful of custom apps and is meant primarily for reading books, taking notes, and looking things up online. But it looks like hackers have taken the first steps toward adding additional functionality. The folks at Android Police have figured out how to gain root access to the EnTourage eDGe, which allows you to access hidden settings, over-clock the CPU, or make other changes such as possibly even installing custom firmware.
The source code for the device is also available, which could make it much easier to create custom firmware. Now we just have to figure out what else you’d want to do with a device like this… you know, other than read eBooks, take notes, and look things up online.
You can find instructions fro rooting the eDGE at Android Police.
