The Enso zenPad Android tablet has a long and sordid history.  When the company introduced the product, it looked like one of the best Android tablets you could buy for under $200… on paper at least. But there were many reports of customers failing to actually receive the tablet and when it finally did actually start shipping customers and reviewers were less than thrilled with the user experience.

Now it looks like Enso has decided to close up the zenPad shop… at least for now. The company says all of its existing orders have been shipped and that some second generation devices should start shipping soon… Meanwhile, customers who orders tablets in March, April, and June and still haven’t received their orders should be receiving refunds. If you’re one of those customers, let us know how that’s working out.

Soon, Enso plans to change its business model and stop selling retail products because it simply can’t find the investors to support its business.

Enso is still hoping to continue selling the zenPad and other Android products. Instead of selling direct to consumers though, the company plans to do business to business sales with minimum orders of 25 devices.

I guess the next question is whether anybody actually wants 25 cheap but lousy tablets… maybe the Indian government?
