Encipher Limited has introduced a 7 inch tablet running Google Android. The company is based in Nigeria and the UK, but it’s not clear at the moment where the Encipher tablet will be sold or how much it will cost.
Here’s what we do know: It will have a 7 inch, 800 x 480 pixel display, 802.11b/g WiFi, 16GB of storage, and 512MB of RAM. The tablet runs Google Android 1.6 and has the option of connecting to 3G mobile broadband networks using an external device plugged into a USB port. There’s also support for TV output thanks to an HDMI port.
You also get an SD card slot and at least two USB ports (there are only pictures of one side of the tablet). Loy Okezie reports that the tablet has a 400MHz VIS8505 processor, but I’m pretty sure that’s a typo and that it should read “VIA 8505,” which is a low power ARM-based processor from chip-maker VIA.
