The Ematic FunTab Pro is a 7 inch tablet with a 1 GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. It runs Google Android 4.0 software, has an HDMI port, a microSD card slot for expansion… and has a thick, rubberized case to help keep the tablet safe from the damage that children can inflict.
That’s because the FunTab Pro is designed for kids. It also includes a kid-friendly user interface and educational software that you can tailor to you’re children’s age and skill level.
J&R is taking pre-orders for the FunTab Pro for $149.99. It should be available at Walmart and other stores soon as well.
There are red, blue, and pink faceplates available for the tablet. Instead of the Google Play Store, the tablet comes with an Ematic Kids App Shop with parental controls.
It’s not exactly a top-of-the-line machine. It has a low resolution 800 x 480 pixel display. But it’s got some features that you won’t find on higher-priced tablets like the Google Nexus 7 including those HDMI and microSD card ports, as well as front and rear cameras. There’s also a full-sized USB port on the bottom of the tablet.
Now if someone can just figure out how to root the tablet and install the Google Play Store, it could become cheap toy for kids and adults alike… like some other tablets that are designed for kids.
