Ematic has officially launched that 9.7 inch eGlide Pro X tablet we spotted earlier this month. IUt’s available for pre-order from J&R for $220, and should be available soon at Walmart and other retailers.
The Ematic eGlide Pro X has a 9.7 inch display, a 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, and a microSD card slot for extra storage space. Ematic also offers customers 5GB of cloud storage with the purchase of a tablet.
The 9.7 inch tablet runs Google Android 4.0 software and comes with pre-loaded software including an office suite, the Kobo eBook store, and the Ematic App Shop — which suggests that the tablet is not a Google certified device with access to the official Google Play Store.
At $220, the eGlide Pro X is a little more expensive than a Kindle Fire or a NOOK Tablet, but significantly cheaper than a Lenovo IdeaTab S2109 — one of the few other Android tablets with a 4:3 aspect ratio screen.
Ematic’s new tablet features 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, HDMI output, and support for HD video playback.
According to the product listing at J&R, the tablet has an 800 x 480 pixel display, but I haven’t seen that confirmed anywhere else yet. If it’s true, that would a disappointingly low screen resolution for a tablet with a display this large.

Coby makes a 9.7″ 4:3 tablet with nearly identical specs and with a higher resolution display (1024×768) selling for under $200 on Amazon.
And, of course, if you’re willing to import a non-brand-name tablet from China you can knock $50-$75 off that price and still get the same specs.
If you’re gonna buy cheap, might as well buy the cheapest.
