Chinese smartphone maker Elephone is showing off pictures of a new phone that looks more than a little like rival Xiaomi’s Mi Mix.
Like the Mi Mix, Elephone’s new device has super-slim left, right, and top bezels with a bit of a bezel below the screen. But the Elephone model has one thing Xiaomi’s phone does not: a physical home button.
Elephone hasn’t said anything about the new phone’s specs, but GizmoChina reports that it has an 18:9 display, much like the LG G6. And thanks to the slim bezels, it should be possible to squeeze a large screen into a phone with the same physical dimensions as a smaller model with thicker bezels and/or a 16:9 screen.
There’s no word on the price or release date for the phone. But for me the phone is mostly interesting as a showpiece that demonstrates the type of hardware Chinese manufacturers can produce these days.
While you can buy some Elephone devices outside of China, most of the company’s phones lack support for 4G LTE networks in the United States.

Okay, Elephone, good ideas here….but let me suggest somethings.
How about we cut half of that bottom bezel off and stick it at the top?
That way it would be symmetrical and pleasing design to the eye.
The top bezel could house the face-cam and also a speaker (for earpiece and music).
The bottom bezel could house another speaker (for good stereo beats).
And the minimal bezel on both sides would be functional, and help ergonomics to reduce accidental screen taps, and help increase rigidity of the screen from cracking under force.
Just throwing some ideas for your interest.
PS… a small kickstand over the camera is also a good idea for a desktop music-video-console, and makes the “camera hump” also a functional design whilst preventing the lens from scratching.
Okay be honest that is not Elephone, that is Mi Mix.
18:9 would be ultra narrow, not ultra-wide.
It is ultra-wide when viewing content via Landscape/Longitudinal axis.
Most computing/viewing is done in that format anyway.
And we have TVs/Monitors with similar aspect ratios and they’re labelled “Ultra-Wide”.
For what its worth….
