701 antenna connector

Want to increase the range of your netbook antenna? PaulDotCom Security has put together a guide for hacking an RP-TNC antenna connector into the side of an Eee PC 701 4G. By performing a little surgery you should be able to find an external antenna that fits your needs with a different pickup pattern or a longer range.

In other words, if you have difficulty picking up a WiFi signal in your house because of interference, this could help.

This hack requires not only taking apart the netbook and laying some wire inside,but also cutting some of the plastic, so it’s definitely a warranty-voiding project. But if you’re the DIY type, it may be cheaper than picking up a new netbook just because you’re having difficulty getting yours to connect to your home network.

  1. For me the best way was to build in a Intel 4965 NDraft Wifi Card. And the easyiest way too 🙂

  2. My day to nitpick – –
    That looks like a rp-sma connector to me –
    I am using my own 701 and rp-sma connector to eyeball the picture with;
    tnc is a noticeably bigger connector. I.E: same size as bnc, except threaded.
    Did the same to my Cloudbook a year ago.
