Right on cue, tablets featuring Intel’s new low power Oak Trail chipset are starting to show up. One of the first is a 10 inch tablet from Elitegroup Computer Systems. The ECS ElitePad S10 showed up at the FCC today.
ECS isn’t exactly a household name, but that’s because the Taiwanese company is an original device manufacturer that develops products which are often sold under different brand names. So if and when the ElitePad S10 goes on sale in the US, odds are it will have a different name.
The tablet features a 10.1 inch capacitive touchscreen display which may be available in 1024 x 600 pixel and 1366 x 768 pixel varieties. The ElitePad S10 has a 1.5 GHz Intel Atom Z670 processor.
It has 1GB of RAM, a solid state disk, and a 1.3MP camera as well as 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, and HDMI. It’s about half an inch thick. It weighs 1.7 pounds and has an ambient light sensor and G-sensor.
The tablet is designed to run Windows 7, and while it has Home and Back keys built onto the side, there’s also a Windows key.
You can find more pictures including internal shots of the computers’ hardware at the FCC. The user manual is also online.
It looks like a nice tablet pc. If it is priced right, I think it could do well no matter what it is called; IMO.
