dell-mini-dual-screen

At CES this year I saw several companies showcasing DisplayLink technology which basically lets you connect a small secondary display to your computer with a USB cable. I’m kind of on the fence over whether this kind of 7 inch displays are actually useful.

On the one hand, this idea is perfect for netbooks, since it lets you add a bit more screen real estate to to a netbook with a 9 or 10 inch 1024 x 600 pixel or lower resolution display. On the other hand, while a small 7 inch, USB powered screen is certainly more portable than your desktop monitor, it could certainly make your netbook bag a bit heavier.

Anyway, Sascha at Netbook News.de spotted a YouTube video showing a Mimo 7 inch USB screen working with a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 hackintosh running OS X. It seems to work quite well, allowing you to drag and drop windows from one screen to another with ease. And it occurs to me that while you might not want to carry the secondary display with you, it might be a nice netbook add-on to keep on your desk at home. Of course, if you don’t expect to travel with the extra screen, you might as well just invest in a full sized LCD monitor that you can keep on your desk.

You can check out the video of the Mimo sceen in action after the break.

  1. I wanted a seconardy screen at home I’d likley use just a bigger screen and just use the netbook as the desktop BOX with a mouse, keybaord and screen attached. Two tiny sceens do not equal one 20″ screen.

  2. I would purchase one instantly if it was a touchscreen. That would be useful even at home on a desktop.

        1. If you’re interested in talking about it, I am curious about what sort of uses or apps you have in mind for the touchscreen-regular screen combination. Probably other folks would like to know more excuses to get this outfit as well 😉

  3. That is the device I was looking for, back when I stumbled on the EeePC 701. 😉
