The Dell Inspiron 11z has been shipping for just over a week, and Liliputing Forum member Frank  Ancona has already received his, and he’s posted his initial impressions in the forum.

The Inspiron 11z is an interesting machine. It has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display and a 1.2GHz Intel CULV processor and integrated Intel GS45 graphics instead of the usual Intel Atom/GMA 950 graphics we see in 10 inch netbooks.

Frank reports that the laptop is very thin and light, weighing just about 3 pounds with a 3 cell battery. He reports it gets about 2.5 hours of battery life, which isn’t stellar. But if and when Dell offers a version with a 6 cell battery, it seems likely that you should be able to get 5 or more hours of run time.

You can read more in the forum.

The Inspiron Mini 11z is available from Dell for $399, although Frank points out that if you know anyone who can get you an employee discount, the price comes down to $359.

  1. The only way to buy in the UK is at Carphone Warehouse and it’s over $650!

  2. Even 5 hours of battery life isn’t real great for a 6-cell, when the Acer 1410 is claiming 8 (which is a little high for most people’s real world usage, but still). Let’s hope it turns out to be 6+.

  3. FYI customer can add a 6-cell battery to the order — it’s under favorite accessories and will ship speperately from the system.

    1. Thanks Anne. Any word on when you’ll be able to choose a 6 cell
battery instead of the 3 cell version as the primary battery? $150
seems a bit steep for a spare battery.

      1. If you’re going to do that, grab a mini 10v w/6-cell from the outlet with 15% coupon for $200 and you’ve got yourself an extra netbook (for only $50 more) plus the battery you wanted 🙂
