Apple introduced a 2 pound MacBook with a fanless case and an Intel Core M processor this week. I’ve seen a lot of folks complain that the $1299 notebook has less powerful hardware than a $799 Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablet.

Normally the price goes up a bit if you want a Surface Pro 3 with a keyboard… but not if you buy one on sale. Right now there are a number of sales on new and refurbished models, so you can pick up an entry-level Surface Pro 3 for $739 (without a keyboard), or a recertified model with a Core i5 processor and 128GB of storage and a keyboard for $850.

  1. Apple has a long history of crippling low-end hardware in an attempt to protect profit margins. I don’t like it, but I can’t argue with its effectiveness considering how much money they have in the bank.
