Laptops with Intel’s new Kaby Lake Refresh chips should be hitting the streets any day now, and thanks to the move from dual-core to quad-core processors, they should offer a significant boost in performance for tasks that support multithreading.

But when it comes to single-core/single-threaded performance, Intel’s first 8th-gen chips aren’t all that much better than 7th-gen or 6th-gen… and there’s at least one advantage to buying a PC with an older chip: it’s likely to be a lot cheaper.

Intel isn’t increasing the suggested retail price of its laptop processors. But retailers that still have a bunch of older computers with older chips in stock have given them price cuts, which is why you can find deals like an Asus Transformer Book Flip 13″ convertible with a Core i5 Skylake processor, 6GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage for $549.

Here are some of the day’s best deals.
