Some folks insist that Chromebooks aren’t “real” laptops. But for the past few years Google has been making a counterpoint by offering Chrome OS laptops with premium hardware as part of its Chromebook Pixel lineup.

More recently companies like Dell, Lenovo, and HP have released Chromebooks with premium features… and premium price tags. But right now you don’t need to spend an arm and a leg to get a Chromebook with a 3200 x 1800 pixel display and plenty of memory.

Woot is selling refurbished HP Chromebook 13 models for $385 and up.

The entry-level model has just 4GB of RAM and an Intel Pentium 4405Y processor. But there are several other models available, including one with a Core M7 Skylake processor and 16GB of RAM for $580.

  1. A Chromebook for $380? I can buy a basic Windows Laptop 15″ for that price, and then I can dual boot Windows and Linux, or run the Chromium OS (open source) or just use Google Services like a Chromebook does. I like Chromebooks, but in the $150 price range, please….

  2. I get the sentiment, but I’d argue most Chromebooks are more laptops than most “real” laptops, given that many are cool enough to actually use on a lap, in contrast with my HP laptop and my work Macbook Pro.

  3. High chromebook prices might be acceptable if you were getting (out of beta) Play Store access. But unfortunately the hardware is moving forward when the OS is stalled.
