Amazon’s latest Kindle eReader with an E Ink screen sells for $119. But if you don’t need a front-lit display and don’t mind buying refurbished units, you can pick up an older Kindle for less than half the price… and get a few bonus features that are missing from newer models.
The discontinued Kindle Touch WiFi features 4GB of storage (twice as much as the Kindle Paperwhite) and has a speaker and headphone jack and support for text-to-speech (something that the Paperwhite lacks).
While the screen resolution isn’t quite as high and you’ll need a booklight if you want to read in the dark, for some folks the older model might actually be a better option. I’ve had one for a few years and I’m still pretty happy with it. Today Woot is selling refurbished models with a 1-year warranty for just $55.
