Didn’t get a chance to pick up that $100 Asus EeeBook X205TA laptop from Staples on Black Friday? No worries… the laptop is always pretty cheap, with a suggested retail price of $200 and a shelf price that’s often much lower.

Right now you can pick one up from Best Buy for $149 or from Staples for $150. Keep in mind, this 11.6 inch notebook has a relatively slow Intel Atom processor, just 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. But it’s a full-fledged Windows laptop that sells for less than the cost of a typical Chromebook.

  1. The local Staples wasn’t sent any X205 units, so they were letting people place online orders from the store until the warehouse ran out of stock – it was nice, not having to fight for one.
A great added bonus is the downright absurd music sale Microsoft is having right now if you go through their Music Deals app. I’ve gotten about 10GB of music and have paid maybe $10 or $12. Good stuff, too.

  2. i got the x205 on black friday at staples.. its awesome, and is totally replacing my iPad

  3. I paid $99 for an X205 at Staples and am still waiting to pick it up — it hasn’t been delivered to the store yet.

  4. I picked up an X205 for $139 before Thanksgiving. It is sufficiently fast for most uses, and probably makes a lot more sense for more people than the $700+ devices that I see Costco advertise all the time, which are overkill. The appeal for me though was the long battery life–advertised at something like 12 hours (something I’ve not yet tested).

    1. FWIW, I streamed two Netflix movies for a total of 3 hours had had just over 3/4 of battery left. Should be more than adequate for a plane flight.

  5. Typo alert: Above it references the X205 as a 10 inch laptop when its 11.6.

    1. I’d buy it if it had a 10″ screen. For a casual use type device, a 10″ screen would work better for me.

      1. It is really small, thin bezels and light weight. It is really perfect for “casual use”. I picked one up for $99 at Staples and couldn’t be happier with it. Only thing is I could not install Windows 10 Tech Preview on it for some reason.

      2. the 11.6 is perfect, 10 would be too small and then the rest of the computer would have to be smaller as well. it already only weighs 2 pounds

      3. I owned a Lenovo S10. You have to do horrible things to a keyboard to squeeze it into a 10″ form factor. Never again. The keyboard on the X205 is actually comfortable to use.
