The Dell Venue 8 Pro is a tablet with an 8 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, an Intel Atom Z3740D Bay Trail processor, and Windows 8.1 software. With a list price of around $300, it’s one of the cheaper Windows tablets on the market — but it’s a full-fledged Windows machine, capable of running both tablet-friendly apps and full desktop-style apps.
The screen’s kind of small for desktop apps, there aren’t a lot of ports, and you’ll probably want a wireless keyboard if you plan to use this tablet for serious work. But if you’re looking for a small tablet that you can use for web surfing, reading eBooks, watching videos, playing games — and occasionally running Microsoft Office or Adobe Photoshop when the need arises, the Venue 8 Pro is one of the more affordable options around.
And at the moment it’s even more affordable than usual. Amazon and Walmart were selling 32GB models for $230 yesterday. Both stores have run out of inventory, but today TigerDirect still has the 8 inch tablet at that price.
