Ultrabooks are cool and all, and prices for entry-level models (or older models) are falling lower and lower. But if you’re in the market for a really cheap small form-factor laptop, almost nothing beats the Asus 1015E.
It’s a little laptop with a 10 inch display that weighs less than 2.8 pounds. There are models that ship with Windows 8 and sell for around $249. Or you can save $49 and pick up a model with Ubuntu Linux.

what about the Asus Eee PC 10.1 Netbook Intel Atom N270 1GB 160GB windows 7 for $149? Is it worthwhile for internet surfing, email, and hd video streaming (most of the video streaming would be screencasted to a large plasma tv)?

I got the 11.6 inch version of this with Ubuntu Linux instead of Windows 8. Nice little computer for traveling.
Good to see Asus is still offering a 10″ laptop. I love that size for travel. If I didn’t already have a laptop that size (and a few others) I would buy one of these in a heartbeat.
