In the market for a cheap portable notebook and don’t need a super speedy processor… or Windows? It’s hard to find a lower-priced option than the Asus VivoBook X200CA.

You can pick one up with Ubuntu for just $210, and if you’re OK with buying an open box model you can get one for even less money.

The notebook has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, 320GB of storage, and weighs 2.7 pounds.

  1. Does anyone know if there is a planned update for X200CA to a Haswell chip? That would make it an instant buy for me.

  2. I hate the disclaimer on newegg open box items. Newegg only guarantees your receipt of the Open Box product with the purchase of this item. Any accessories MAY OR MAY NOT be included. Newegg will NOT send you any missing accessories, even if it is required to use all of the item’s functions.

    1. Yea, that is weak. They could at least promise you get the essentials, like in the case of a notebook that you get the power brick and battery. I can understand them not wanting to get bogged down tracking each minor piece, but you really should be assured of getting a usable product.

A power brick could wipe out almost all of the ‘bargain’ of buying an open box. You are already giving up on any sort of return, and sometimes even a warranty of any kind. Not worth it.
