“(there’s mounting evidence that it’s not)”
There’s conclusive evidence that the seasonal flu causes more serious illnesses and deaths among schoolage children than Covid-19. Why haven’t we shut down schools for the flu in the past? Will we shut down schools because of the flu for now on?
Because there’s also conclusive evidence that kids who don’t get sick and die from COVID-19 can pass it on to more vulnerable populations, this aiding the spread of a disease that is both much more deadly than a seasonal flu and for which there is no vaccine yet (unlike the flu). It’s also not an either/or situation. Flu season is coming up soon, which means that any and all COVID-related deaths and other complications will be in top of flu-related conditions, not instead of them.
And death isn’t the only potentially serious consequence of a COVID-19 infection, there are numerous studies showing that many people who contract the virus have lung damage and other complications that could have long-lasting effects on a person’s health.
Until there is a vaccine, treatment, and herd immunity, the best tools we have are social distancing and masks. And as schools across the country have begun reopening, we’ve seen them shut down one after another because of their inability to control the spread of the virus.
That seemed like a lot to write in a quick line at the start of a daily deals post though, so I went with a simplified version.
To be fair. It’s still a good reason for a sale. Studying from home is easier if you have your own device rather than having to steal/schedule the use of your roommate’s/parents’/siblings’ etc.
