When evaluating Chromebook deals, it’s useful to check Google’s automatic update policy for the model you’re looking at: https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/6220366
Some on sale older models may only get ChromeOS updates for three more years while newer models will get six years of updates. Of course, Chromebooks are useful past the AUE date; we have Acer C710’s in daily use that are about two years past their AUE date.
Any issues with using the C710’s without updates?
We haven’t noticed anything that anything doesn’t work except they are not supported by the online statewide standardized testing.
This has been the reason that I have passed up on most Chromebook deals. I would like a Chromebook, but most of the interesting models are a few years old before they actually reach a price I agree with.
