  1. Are mediatek processors like p22 for samsung tab a7 lite running in 64 bit mode these days? Some say due to addressing it takes 4gb ram minimum, i know some older models are 64 bit design yet run in 32 bit mode, due to low ram. id imagine both 3gb and 4gb ram models run in 32 bit but i may be wrong.

    1. “Some say due to addressing it takes 4gb ram minimum”

This is backwards. The problem is that you can’t use more than 4gb of RAM on an ARM 32 bit chip, because of the way that 32 bit memory addresses are written.

64 bit was required to have the ability to address more than 4gb RAM.

The same problem doesn’t exist the other way around. You can run 64 bit chips with less than 4gb RAM.

However, the 4gb limitation doesn’t really exist anymore on newer versions of ARM architecture. For 32 bit chips, they’re now using a solution called LPAE, which allows more than 4GB ram to be addressed. But it doesn’t work nearly as well as 64 bit.

      1. Thanks but my question remains unanswered. You said, more than 4gb but its exactly 4gb which isnt more. What I want to know is, if the processors are indeed run in 64 bit mode, or 32 bit mode.

        1. Smartphone models with 64 bit cores often run in 32 bit mode with like 2gb and often 3gb because its a design tradeoff. Why exactly, don’t ask me, but i’d imagine performance and battery penalty. An ordinary user cannot “free the cores” and reset them to 64 bit even if phone is rooted. Its preset by manufacturer.
