Last week my laptop charger stopped working after about three and a half years of use. My best guess is that either a cat chewed on it or the charger got snagged under a couch or table and a connection came loose. I might have been able to fix it with a bit of electric tape and patience, but fortunately my notebook works with any USB Type-C charger that supports 45W power delivery or higher.
So I picked up a 65W RAVPower charger that’s on sale for $20 when you use the coupon RPEN4. It’s smaller than my old charger, comes with a USB-C cable, and should work with third-party cables if anything ever happens to this one. There’s also a USB Type-A port, allowing me to charge two gadgets at once. My new charger arrived in just a few days and seems to work just as well as my old one… although the USB cable is a little short, so I might look into picking up a longer one in the future.

Here are some of the day’s best deals.

The cat, eh? I had a cat that loved chewing cables. She messed up a couple of network cables, but never a power supply. But it reminds me, if there are no obvious signs of failure or damage, that I had two different HP laptops in my house about a decade ago. The computers were different models but used the same model power supplies and even the OEM power supplies failed fairly quickly, maybe 2-3 years. Of course, it’s been so long that it doesn’t really mean much, other than even OEM power bricks can be terrible as well.
I have a 61W RAVPower usb-c charger that’s a couple years old and going great. It even keeps my gaming laptop going when I want to travel lighter.
They were one of the brands pulled from Amazon for fake reviews though, right? Makes me wonder how accurate all the glowing reviews on their own site are 🙂
it does look like a good deal
Yeah, I actually own a couple of RAVPower products and I’ve had no complaints. It’s a shame they felt the need to pay for positive reviews, because they actually seem to make decent gear. But I’m not mad at Amazon for kicking them (and other companies) out for astroturfing.
Thanks for the lead, Brad. The RAVPower usb-c charger came quickly and works like a charm. It replaces the OEM charger for my Acer Switch and reduces what I need to pack.
How do you know it wasn’t a chien who chewed it? Or do you only have chats?
I think all of the chiens were poissoned.
