  1. What is Woot, why is it “an Amazon company” and what is “new condition”? Are these phones really brand new?

    1. Woot was a gimmick store that used to offer a deal on one random item per day. The company behind it sold the store to amazon, now it offers more random stuff per day. The company behind it later created meh.com, which sells one random thing per day.
      If it seems silly, I guess it largely works because of the forums.
      No idea how new “new” really is in this case. But it seems pretty often that more phones of a given model are made than can be sold to people who want the latest devices, so the new old stock gradually decreases in price until, for example, you could get a new, in box LGV20 for $150 on ebay in 2020, and then the last of it gets slurped up by cheap people.

    1. Exactly right. Nowadays I refuse to buy a phone with anything less than 5 years of security updates support.

      1. So which iPhone did you decide on? Or is there now an Android phone manufacturer that not only announces 5+ years of support, but actually honors that support promise? I haven’t heard of one.

    2. My Pixel 3 stopped getting updates recently. I was going to keep it while longer anyway, but now the case is coming apart at the seams. I think maybe the battery is swollen, but at any rate, I’ve discontinued use of the phone. I just think it’s funny that it physically fell apart right after it stopped getting updates.
