expensive than as recently as a week ago.
Could it be that supply chains are running out
due to Covid-19?
They are. And there will be shortages for the next 6-12 months.
For instance, the PS5 seems to be heavily affected:
Where they planned on BoM of ~$400 to sell for ~$499. But now the Bill-of-Materials has seemed to ballooned to ~$550, which means they will need to take the ~$100 loss per unit, or need to sell it for ~$599 instead. They could go for the latter option, temporarily, and then permanently reduce the price back down to $499 after 12 months. But that’s a risky gamble against Microsoft who has plenty of cash reserves to take the financial hit, unlike Sony.
